Photography

My first photo was of a four-wheel drive jeep. I was eight years old and had been given a second-hand Boots 110 format camera with a big purple shutter button. Since then I have owned various cameras (of varying quality) but the interest has stayed.

At school I was lucky enough to have access to a darkroom which I used regularly, and when doing my foundation at FE college I could be found in the darkroom until 9 or 10pm. I loved photography, but I loved other creative disciplines too. My choice of university gave me the option of specialising further down the line in either graphic design or photography, until they launched their own photography degree course leaving me stranded.

At this point I could have changed course or even changed college, but something stopped me. Only after 10 years of slowly realising that I went down the wrong route did I start doing anything about it. Wedding photography for a friend that I enjoyed more than I should have, and research for my own wedding photography made me realise I had the potential to be more than a hobbyist.

So Mark Wallis Photography was born and was my key to escaping the day-job drudgery and daily commute that I never thought would be part of my life.
