Well, the move to the new hosting went as smoothly as could be expected. By that I mean the site was only down for two days. Could have been a week I guess…
Unfortunately all the comments on the blog bit the dust, and not quite sure how to get them back. Bigger fish to fry for now. Don’t let this put you off commenting.

I don’t read many blogs so my opinion is no doubt worthless, but Daily Defamation is easily my favourite. I may start to be more insulting in my posts in honour of them. People need to know the truth.

My friend (and soon to be Best Man) Jay posted on her blog today about keeping your blog secret for fear of opening cans of worms, particularly with her boss who gets a roasting on there once a week. I remember my initial hesitation as I’ve never been one for writing a diary, and when I did I would have never dreamed of people being able to look at it, especially people that knew me quite well.
I guess I’ve made a concious effort to not say anything here that I wouldn’t say to anybody if they were stood in front of me. If I say anything that could be construed as offensive it’s usually not about anyone that I would ever meet except in the most exceptional of coincidences. I try not to talk about life or career plans in too much detail for fear of upsetting family or bosses, although at the same time I haven’t gone out of my way to tell them it’s here.
Having not advertised my blog in any way, I’m constantly surprised when people come up to me and say they’ve read it. I always have to think on my feet about recent postings! I guess it’s going to happen when it’s on the homepage of my website. It’s the old thing of getting emails and checking out all the domain names on peoples e-mail addresses. Maybe if I moved my work to the homepage I would be rich and famous? No, didn’t think so.
I’m building a site for my brother-in-law (saves me updating this posting in 81 days) at the moment which I want to build a blog into, but I’m worried his postings may get it shut down, or get him arrested. Honesty is a tricky thing when you are in a public place. I’d love to be able to spill my guts here and use it as a method of de-stressing, but I don’t think that will ever be completely possible. Is there any point in doing it in that case? As a method of updating friends and family to what is happening in your life it works quite well, but only a) when I manage to post regularly and b) when I have something interesting to tell. Which isn’t very often. Hence his ramble…

A month in, and I’m slightly taken aback at the number of comments appearing in reply to my blog posts. The only person I sent a link to was Jay, but somehow I seem to be collecting an audience.
My main problem is figuring out who is actually reading it. Jay had the good manners to create a Blogger ID with her name on it. Kev luckily made lots of references to Newcastle and signed off as ‘downunder k’, which sounds like a limited edition breakfast cereal. davidfisher6932 sent me a lovely link to a dating site and said how great my blog was, but it turns out that was spam!!! (Yes Jay, you are not special I’m afraid)
Most annoying of all, someone has purposefully remained anonymous, then signed off with ‘guess who’! How am I supposed to guess?! (Is that you Taff?)
Another side effect of all this attention is increased pressure to not only post more regularly than I have been managing, but also to be more interesting, this post not being a great example. Have to keep the vicarious pleasures coming thick and fast.
Tonight is the opening reception of The London Design Festival 2005 at the National Gallery. Last year we found ourselves stood shoulder to shoulder with John Prescott and Zandra Rhodes, so who knows what excitement will feature in tomorrow’s post? An in depth critique of Tom Dixon’s rubber band bench which is currently sitting in Trafalgar Square maybe. Or perhaps just a review of the canapés.

It’s kind of like a portal, but without the masses of content you would expect from a portal. The only new thing really is this blog. And a half-finished photography section. I realise I’m jumping on the bandwagon, but Jay has hassled me so much to get a blog up and running. So here it is.
I used to write a diary when I was about 12, but I guess this is different. Not sure how people manage to fill their blogs with things interesting enough to read. The attraction of getting an insight into a stranger’s existence must be the draw. I fear I may disappoint.
Ho hum.
